(Late) Weekend Round-up

I am definitely belated in this weekend round-up(better stated as last weekend’s round-up at this point), mostly because I foolishly waited for paint to dry before posting final pictures.

Anyway, to recap…

Last weekend while we enjoyed a casual father’s day BBQ. I put together the pasta salad, made oven fries, and even prepped the burgers. But the BBQing execution was all the old man, and they were delicious burgers!

And I found a way to use up the leftover bookcase paint from last week’s project. Repainting a mirror!

I’ve had this mirror for almost 3 years, with the best of intentions to paint the frame to better suit my style (no offense, Frankie Fingers!). However, it hung on my wall in its glittery gold pizzazz. Note – mirror is photographed from the ground so we wouldn’t have that awkward I’m-in-the-picture-with-my-camera thing.

Following the same steps as I did with the bookcase, I sanded down the frame (this takes a lot more sanding to create the grip for the paint to stick to), taped the edges to protect the mirror, and got down to business.

Painting the frame also took three coats of paint (as opposed to the bookcase’s two coats). After two coats, there were spots where the gold still showed through, so be patient, wait for each coat to fully dry so you can inspect each phase to see how much farther you have to go.

End result is something a bit more modern and well-suited to our home and style.

    The mirror looks great! Thanks for not putting yourself in the picture. AWKWARD!! (j/k).

    That pasta salad looks delish! What’s in it? Do tell?

      Thanks! The pasta salad is easy – I put together the following:

      Fresh spinach leaves
      2 C (uncooked) Tri-Color pasta, cooked to the instructions on the box
      2 TBSP Pesto sauce
      A dash of Champagne dressing
      Chopped bell peppers, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm
      A sprinkle of Parmesan cheese
      Salt and Pepper

      Mix everything together and place in fridge until ready to serve. Will keep in plastic containers up to a week.
